Urgent Vietnam eVisa for Indian Citizens: 2026 Guide
Urgent Vietnam eVisa for Indian Citizens
Short answer: Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam. The eVisa is the standard route: up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, entirely online, official processing about 3 working days. If you are flying sooner, read the timing section — for Indian applicants the working-hours overlap with Vietnam is unusually good, and most people waste it.
Do Indian citizens need a visa for Vietnam in 2026?
Yes. India is not on Vietnam’s visa-exemption list, so a visa is required for tourism, business, visiting family or transit where you clear immigration.
Since August 2023, Vietnam has issued eVisas to citizens of all countries and territories, for stays of up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
What to have ready
- An Indian passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival, with at least 2 blank pages
- A clear scan of the passport bio page
- A photo in 4x6cm format, white background, no glasses, both ears visible
- Your flight details and your first hotel in Vietnam
- The exact port of entry from your ticket
The Phu Quoc rule, and why it catches Indian travellers out
Phu Quoc has a 30-day visa-free entry that applies to foreign nationals, Indians included. It sounds like a free pass. The conditions are narrow:
- You fly or sail to Phu Quoc directly from outside Vietnam
- You stay only on the island — no side trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or anywhere on the mainland
- You leave Vietnam directly from Phu Quoc
- Passport valid 6+ months, with a confirmed onward or return ticket
In practice almost no Indian itinerary fits. Most routings from India connect through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, and connecting through the mainland breaks the exemption. The Embassy of India in Hanoi issued an advisory on 6 April 2026 recommending an eVisa even for a Phu Quoc-only trip. We would follow that advice. The cost of an eVisa is far smaller than the cost of being turned around at the gate.
Timing: Indian applicants have the best overlap, and waste it
Vietnam is only 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India. Vietnamese government offices run 7:30 to 17:30 local time, which is 6:00 am to 4:00 pm IST.
That is the widest usable window of any major source market — most of the Indian working day sits inside Vietnamese office hours. The mistake is applying in the Indian evening. Submit at 7pm IST and it is 8:30pm in Hanoi; nothing moves until the next morning, and for a traveller flying the next day that lost night is the whole margin.
The practical rule: submit before 3:30 pm IST on a weekday. Our urgent tiers:
- Urgent — approval in 4 to 8 working hours, weekdays
- Emergency — approval in 1 to 2 hours, weekdays
- Weekend and holiday — a separate tier, since Vietnamese offices are closed
Fees for each tier are on our pricing page. Note that Vietnamese public holidays do not match Indian ones — Tet in particular closes offices for several days.
The name field, and why Indian applications get stuck here
This deserves its own section because it causes more trouble for Indian applicants than anything else on the form.
Indian passports do not all carry a surname. Some have the surname field blank, with the full name printed under given names. Others carry initials. The Vietnamese form expects the name to match your passport’s machine-readable zone exactly — and the right way to enter a blank-surname passport is not obvious, with guesswork producing a mismatch that gets refused.
If your passport has a blank surname field, tell us when you apply. It is a thirty-second fix at the start and a lost application if it is handled wrongly.
Single entry or multiple entry?
The Vietnam Immigration Department charges USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, both up to 90 days.
Take multiple entry if Cambodia, Laos, Thailand or a Bangkok stopover is anywhere in the plan. Re-entering Vietnam on a single-entry eVisa is not possible — you would be applying again from abroad, mid-trip.
The government fee is non-refundable even if the application is refused. A rejection does not return your USD 25.
Where you can enter
Vietnam accepts eVisas at 83 international border gates — airports, land crossings and seaports. The number rose in December 2025, when Resolution 389/NQ-CP added 41 gates to the 42 approved in 2023.
Direct services from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata land mainly at Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City) and Da Nang. Put the gate that matches your ticket — a mismatch can mean refused boarding in India.
Travelling as a group
Weddings, family trips and incentive groups from India are a large share of what we handle. Two things to plan for:
- Every traveller needs their own application, each with its own fee and its own photo. There is no family application.
- In a group of twenty, one passport with a blank surname field or one square photo will hold up that person alone — but it tends to surface the day before departure. Send the whole group’s documents in one batch early and we will flag the problem cases while there is still time.
Applying yourself vs using us
You can apply directly at evisa.gov.vn, the Vietnam Immigration Department’s own portal, paying only the USD 25 or USD 50 government fee. If your trip is weeks away and your documents are straightforward, that is the sensible thing to do, and we would rather say so.
Our service fee sits on top of the government fee. It buys speed, a check before submission, and follow-up — which matters when you fly within 72 hours, when an earlier application was refused, or when the name on your passport does not fit the form neatly.
We are a licensed Vietnamese tourism-services agent, not a government body.
Questions Indian travellers ask us most
Can I get a Vietnam eVisa in one day?
On a Vietnamese working day, yes — our emergency tier targets 1 to 2 hours. Apply in the Indian morning.
I fly tomorrow. Is it too late?
Often not, but it depends on the hour and whether Vietnamese offices are open. Call +84.988.88.5560 rather than filling in the form and we will tell you honestly.
My passport has no surname. Can I still apply?
Yes. Tell us before you apply so it is entered correctly the first time.
Is visa on arrival better for Indians?
Usually not. It still needs an approval letter arranged in advance, is airport-only, and then you queue and pay a stamping fee in cash. The eVisa is simpler.
Can I extend my eVisa inside Vietnam?
Not in the ordinary way. Most travellers who need longer exit and re-enter on a new eVisa — another reason to choose multiple entry up front.
Do I need to print it?
Print it. Airline staff in India routinely ask for it before boarding.
Ready to apply
The form takes about 5 minutes. We check it before submission and tell you if anything will cause a problem.
