Urgent Vietnam eVisa for Hong Kong Passport Holders (2026)
Urgent Vietnam eVisa for Hong Kong Passport Holders
Short answer: Hong Kong SAR passport holders need a visa for Vietnam — there is no exemption. The eVisa is the route: up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, entirely online, official processing about 3 working days. If you are flying sooner, the timing section below is the one that matters, and Hong Kong has the best overlap with Vietnamese working hours of any market we serve.
Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa?
Yes. Hong Kong SAR is not on Vietnam’s visa-exemption list. Since August 2023, Vietnam has issued eVisas to citizens of all countries and territories, up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
One point worth stating because it causes confusion: a British National (Overseas) passport does not inherit the UK’s visa exemption. UK citizens get 45 days visa-free; BN(O) holders do not. If you hold BN(O), you need an eVisa like everyone else. Travellers who assume otherwise find out at the airline counter.
What to have ready
- Passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival, with 2 blank pages
- A clear scan of the bio page
- A photo, 4x6cm, white background, no glasses, both ears visible
- Your flight details and your first hotel in Vietnam
- The exact airport from your ticket
Timing: Hong Kong has the widest window
Vietnam is 1 hour behind Hong Kong. Vietnamese government offices run 7:30 to 17:30 local time, which is 8:30 am to 6:30 pm Hong Kong time.
That is almost your entire working day. A Hong Kong traveller who applies at lunchtime on a weekday is inside the Vietnamese working afternoon, which is exactly where the urgent tiers work best. The only real trap is applying late at night and expecting overnight movement — Vietnamese offices are closed, and no service changes that.
- Urgent — 4 to 8 working hours, weekdays
- Emergency — 1 to 2 hours, weekdays. See emergency Vietnam eVisa
- Weekend and holiday — a separate tier, since Vietnamese offices are closed
Fees are on our pricing page. Note that Vietnamese Tet and Hong Kong’s Lunar New Year fall at the same time, and Vietnamese offices close for several days — the peak week for short-notice travel is also the week nothing processes.
Single entry or multiple entry?
The Vietnam Immigration Department charges USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, both up to 90 days.
Hong Kong itineraries into Vietnam are often short and repeated — buying trips, factory visits, a weekend in Da Nang then back through Bangkok. If there is any chance of leaving and returning, take multiple entry. Re-entering on a single-entry eVisa is not possible; you would be reapplying from abroad, mid-trip.
The government fee is non-refundable even if the application is refused.
Where you can enter
Vietnam accepts eVisas at 83 international border gates since Resolution 389/NQ-CP added 41 gates in December 2025. Direct flights from Hong Kong land mainly at Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Noi Bai (Hanoi), Da Nang and Phu Quoc.
The gate on your eVisa must match the gate on your ticket. An eVisa issued for Noi Bai does not work at Tan Son Nhat.
Why applications get refused
- Photo ratio. 4x6cm is taller than wide; square crops fail.
- Name entry. It must match the Latin-script name in the passport’s machine-readable zone exactly — the romanised spelling as printed, not a different transliteration of the same Chinese name.
- Assuming BN(O) is exempt. Covered above.
- Airport mismatch with the ticket.
- Passport expiring inside 6 months of the entry date.
Applying yourself vs using us
You can apply directly at evisa.gov.vn and pay only the USD 25 or USD 50 government fee. If your trip is a week or more away and your documents are straightforward, do that — we would rather say so than take a fee for work you do not need.
Our service fee sits on top. It buys speed, a check before submission, and follow-up — which matters when you fly within 72 hours, when an earlier application was refused, or when you are moving a group.
We are a licensed Vietnamese tourism-services agent, not a government body.
Ready to apply
The form takes about 5 minutes. We check it before submission and tell you if anything will cause a problem.
